Most if not the majority of music schools typically staff instructors that are well-versed in many guitar styles and genres. Even though this is great for parents who wish their children to have an all-around education, there’s very little “rock” in the curriculum, mainly because it’s the hardest subject to teach.
To teach rock & roll, you have to live and breathe rock & roll. Our coaches were passionate about rock music since their teenage days, have spent years touring and performing with their rock bands, and now wish to share their knowledge and experiences with new generations.
This abundance of experience enables our coaches to prepare students for all possible scenarios in the rock music industry, whether it be a session guitar player, a part-time “weekend warrior”, a full-fledged recording artist, or the lead guitar of an aspiring rock band.
We Teach All Styles of Rock
Hard rock, glam rock, heavy rock, punk rock, folk rock, pop rock – you name it, we teach it. The world of rock and roll is so vast and diverse that listing all of the styles would take forever. Music tastes are subjective, and we understand that all of our students have different favorite bands and preferences when it comes to their favorite music.
Our coaches make it their mission to uncover these preferences, foster them, and ensure all of our students can learn everything there is about the styles that resonate the most with them.
We pay great attention to the wishes of our students and strive to nurture their authenticity as much as possible. When a student comes to our offices excited about their favorite band releasing a new album, the entire class is listening to it.
Since our rock guitar classes specialize in this particular genre, all types of rock are part of the curriculum. Many children never heard of Twisted Sister and know very little about the infamous era of glam rock, for instance.

Step-by-step Rock Guitar Technique Classes
Iconic rock guitar players have found innumerable revolutionary uses for the guitar. From sliding and hammer-ons to divebombs, arpeggiated scales, and squeals, you’ll rarely see any of these techniques in a genre that isn’t R&R or metal.
Understanding and learning these techniques is a complex process that usually requires months of practice. Since your child will be taught by a rock guitar specialist, the time required to grasp even the most intricate of tricks will be much shorter.
Our coaches are very creative when designing each class, especially when hard guitar techniques are up. The students will frequently come in with their favorite songs, and the coaches will often improvise in these tunes by adding techniques currently being taught.

Accelerate Your Progress Learning Solos
Energetic, fast-paced solos are what made rock stand out from other music genres. There’s million-note-per-second shredding in metal, a bit more soulful but mellowy playing in jazz & blues, the wild jumble of notes in punk, and a few notes above the rhythm guitar in pop music.
So, what makes a rock guitar solo? It’s the combination of all of the above. It needs to come from the heart, first and foremost. We want our students to feel the solo before they even attempt to play the notes.

One of the best feelings in the world is playing a song from start to finish. When you enroll your child in The Music Box, one of the first things he or she will learn is how to play their favorite tune.
Most people know the parts of their favorite songs by heart, and that’s one of the prerequisites to learning how to play them. Kids have a knack for memorizing everything new and believe it or not, the best time to start taking guitar lessons is as early as 4 years old.
We’ll give your child the basics needed to play the song they want to learn start-to-finish, and we’ll be glad to have them in The Music Box if they want to learn more.
