Whether it be a small weekend show at a local pub, a concert at a city hall, or a big arena event that thousands of people will attend, live performances are what keep the music scene alive. More importantly, they inspire both musicians and the audiences, so it’s only natural that you can’t wait to get up on that stage.
The Music Box is Tampa’s premier bass music school helping aspiring musicians reach their goals, so if you ever wondered what it’s like and what you need to know about musical performances, you’ve come to the right place.
Our team warmly invites you to come to The Music Box if you’re seeking quality bass coaching, but before you decide, we wanted to give you a brief rundown of what we teach and how we can help you achieve your dreams.
What We Do at The Music Box
Headquartered in Carrollwood, Tampa, Florida, The Music Box has been the leading bass music school for years.
We’ve helped generations of rock bassists learn the basics and take their newly-acquired skills to the next level, which is just the tip of the iceberg – we’ve also hosted dozens of real shows across Tampa and beyond, and we help our students create rock bands that play in front of live audiences.
With a team of highly experienced bass coaches, we’re here to ensure that you have a pleasurable, sociable, and comfortable learning journey.
You’ll make new like-minded friends along the way, and they’ll eventually become your bandmates. After a while, you’ll have both the skills and experience to form your own rock band or join existing ones with confidence in your bass-playing ability. Check out our Facebook page, and you’ll see dozens of shining examples of what The Music Box rock bands can do.
Bass 101 – Beginner’s Lessons Made Fun & Simple
Learning anything new can be difficult, and this is especially true for learning how to play an instrument as responsive and tactile as the bass guitar.
While dozens of online music schools and lesson providers either rush through or downright skip elementary things such as chords, melody, or harmony, our bass coaches want you to learn everything. With a well-rounded skill set, you’ll be able to play any genre and fulfill any role in whichever band you’re a part of.
Whether it be popping and slapping for groovy jazz, rapid-tempo alternate picking for metal, the gritty licks for rock, or all of the above, you’ll get to learn a bit of everything at The Music Box.
Our Learning Groups are Taught by Skilled Bass Coaches
You’d be surprised how many guitarists present themselves as bass teachers. After all, if you can play a six-string instrument, you’re probably an expert on a four-stringed one, right? That couldn’t be further from the truth.
Bass is fundamentally different from any other instrument mainly because it emphasizes feel over speed, accuracy, and tone. Granted, all of these qualities form the core skills of any bass player, but if you don’t learn how to properly “feel” the music that you listen to and play, you’ll never understand what bass playing is all about.
Our bass coaches are, first and foremost, veteran bass players who’ve spent years on the road, playing venues big and small, and were part of numerous bands before settling down as The Music Box coaches.
Experts of their craft, our coaches have already taught hundreds of children and adults and know how to create an engaging, fun, and educative curriculum. Just come to our TikTok page and see for yourself how they inspire and encourage young students to grow beyond their limits.
You’ll Form a Band with Other Students
One of the best things about creating/joining a band is hanging out with friends and making & playing music. However, many kids, teens, and especially adults don’t have too many musician friends, so they usually join bands with complete strangers.
At The Music Box, all of your new friends are musicians from the same group as you. Over time, you’ll grow together, and learn each other’s strengths. To help beginners feel more comfortable in their new band, the coach leading your group will also be a part of it, showing you the ropes while leaving you and your bandmates more than enough space to choose where it will go.
After a couple of practice sessions, you’ll have an opportunity to come to the big stage with your friends and play music in front of a real audience. What better way to break the ice than having your family and close friends cheer as you play your favorite tunes? Just swing by our Instagram page, and you’ll see how it works in action.
You’ll be Ready to Play Real Shows in No Time
Many musicians learn on the go, playing show after show to accumulate a bit of experience, and needless to say, they rarely sound great in the beginning. That’s what we’re here to change.
We want to give our students an opportunity to perform live in a controlled setting where they’ll feel comfortable. Stagefright is best addressed right off the bat, and playing at The Music Box will ensure your talents will get to be under the spotlight whenever you feel comfortable.
Before long, you’ll notice that you’ve grown – your riffs will be more fluid; you’ll be in the right tempo more consistently; you’ll replace stagefright with the pure enjoyment of playing live. Our ultimate goal is to see that happen and to succeed, our bass coaches will be with you every step of the way.
